Alright so I gotta share this bedtime story thing I tried last night. Was totally wiped after work but my kid kept pestering for “one more story” like always.

How It Started

Grabbed this beat-up notebook from my drawer – the one with coffee stains all over. Figured I’d scribble something real quick before passing out myself. Brain felt like mush honestly.

The Process

Started dumb simple:

Made up a character called Sleepy Sock who kept falling off the bed
Threw in a moon that could only whisper because it had laryngitis
Made the whole thing shorter than my grocery list
Just blurted out whatever nonsense came to mind while yawning. Probably took like three minutes flat.

Changed voices for each character even though I sound like a dying frog at night. Kid kept giggling when I made Sock do this squeaky “whoopsie” sound after falling. Added some arm flapping movements too – felt ridiculous but whatever works.

The Outcome

Absolute miracle happened. Kid actually closed their eyes before the story ended. Like properly zonked out mid-sentence. Stared at them for five minutes thinking it was some trick.

This morning they remembered Sleepy Sock’s name but completely forgot what happened in the story. Perfect! Means I can reuse the same garbage plot tomorrow night with different names. Might swap Sock for Grumpy Pillow next time.

Wife gave me that look like “finally figured it out dummy”. Gonna keep testing this lazy storytelling method all week. Barely counts as a story honestly but hell if it gets them sleeping.
