Man, last night’s Browns versus Broncos game had me itching to see how individual players stacked up. The final score only tells part of the story, right? Wanted the real meat – who balled out, who struggled. So, figured I’d dig into the player stats myself, see what the numbers actually said.
Getting Started – The Hunt for Numbers
First things first, needed a solid source. Knew the official NFL site usually has it, but sometimes it takes forever after the game. Grabbed my laptop, opened up Chrome, and typed it in while munching on some chips leftover from watching the game. Sure enough, there it was – the Game Center page. Clicked on that “Stats” tab so fast. Felt like sifting through gold.
Okay, the first screen showed me all the basic team stats – yards, turnovers, time of possession. Useful, but not what I craved. Scrolled down hard, almost missed it! Finally found the section called “Player Stats.” Jackpot. Now, decided to break this down by offense and defense, ‘cause that’s how my brain works. Needed to see both sides of the ball.
Diving Into the Offense
Started with the QBs, obviously. First checked Deshaun Watson. Looked at completions, yards, TDs, that pick… ugh. Saw his passer rating was kinda meh. Then flipped over to Russell Wilson. More efficient, fewer mistakes maybe, stats felt cleaner. Interesting contrast there. Then moved to the RBs. Wanted to see that Chubb vs. Williams matchup everyone talked about.
- Checked carries – who got the ball?
- Scanned the yards – hard yards or breakaways?
- Looked for receptions – were they involved catching?
Jotted stuff down on a notepad beside me, old school. Saw Chubb’s YPC pop out – dude stays consistent. Wilson got some good runs too. Noted it down, messy handwriting and all.
Then onto receivers. Who got targets? Who caught ‘em? Cooper seemed like a safe place for Watson all night based on the numbers – way more targets than others. Jeudy’s name kept popping up on the Denver side too. Made a mental note to check the targets versus catches for key drops later.
Switching to Defense
Clicked over to the defensive section. First instinct? Find the sacks and tackles. Searched for Garrett’s name first – of course. Saw him show up on the stat sheet, couple tackles, QB hit. Solid, but was expecting more pressure maybe? Then scanned down the tackle leaders. Saw JOK piled up tackles – guy flies around! PS2 (Pat Surtain II) showed his worth too. Kept scrolling, looking for those tackles for loss and those crucial pass breakups. Names like Jewell for the Broncos kept appearing.
Wrapping It Up – Putting it Together
Leaned back in my chair, coffee cold now. Looked at my messy notes. Tried to see patterns. For the Browns, felt like Chubb and the run game delivered, Watson had moments but also wobbles, defense was okay but not dominant. Broncos seemed efficient with Russ, defense solid making tackles. Printed the stats pages out – easier to scribble on. Circled a few standout numbers, like Cooper’s huge target share and JOK’s tackle number. Took a photo of my messy desk and notes – felt raw, like I actually did the work. Realized the story isn’t always the big plays on TV; sometimes it’s the quiet consistency shown in these numbers later. Frustrating at times clicking around? Yup. Found what I needed? Definitely.
