Where I Started – Total Mess Honestly
Got tagged in this wild Twitter thread arguing about where MLB The Show 25 plays best for college teams. Folks were yelling “PlayStation!” “Xbox!” “Switch sucks!”, but nobody actually tested them side-by-side. Figured since I got all three consoles collecting dust anyway, why not put them through the paces?
My Setup & Testing Process
Dragged all my junk together:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X
- Nintendo Switch (the OG model)
Fired up the same save file on each machine. Focused on my college dynasty save. Didn’t wanna just stare at graphics – wanted to feel how it actually played during real games.
Checked these things hard:
- How long till I could actually start playing after booting.
- How jerky or smooth the fielding animations were.
- Any weird delays when swinging the bat or pitching.
- How snappy the menus felt switching between lineups.
- Honestly just how good the crowd and uniforms looked close up.
Running The Tests – Console vs Console
Nintendo Switch: Ugh. Loading took forever – got time to make coffee twice. Gameplay was rough. Pitching felt kinda sticky, like throwing through mud. Batting? Forget precise timing. Fly balls? Choppy animation city. Graphics looked soft, kinda blurry compared to the others. Fun for portability, but not for serious college league grinding.
Xbox Series X: Boom. Loaded quick, maybe 15 seconds. Gameplay smooth sailing mostly. Pitching meter felt crisp, hitting was responsive. Fielding animations looked good, no major stutters. Menus snapped fast. Visually sharp, great lighting on those college fields. Solid experience top to bottom. Controller felt natural for pitching sequences.
PlayStation 5: Okay, blazing fast loading. Like, blink and it’s done. Gameplay? Buttery smooth fielding, zero hiccups during intense plays. Batting felt pinpoint sharp, pitching was instant. Menus flew. Graphics? Tiny bit sharper textures on the jerseys and fields than Xbox, plus that sweet PS5 controller vibration making foul tips actually feel awful. Top performer, barely.
My Picks After Playing All Weekend
Based on how it actually runs for deep college franchise players:
- #1 PlayStation 5: Absolutely the champ. Speed, smoothness, little details – everything just clicked best. If you wanna live in that dynasty mode, this is it.
- #2 Xbox Series X: Real close! Super fast, plays great, controller fits baseball games perfectly. You’re barely missing anything vs PS5.
- Not Even Close Switch: Feels like a totally different, worse game. Only grab this if portability is your #1 must-have and visuals/smoothness don’t matter.
My advice? If you care about performance for your college team grind, grab it on either the PS5 or Xbox Series X. Trying to play it deep on Switch? Nah, save your sanity.
