Okay so this morning I’m eating cereal scrolling Twitter when I see folks buzzing about Rory McIlroy at the tournament. “What’s his score?” I mutter, spilling some milk. Immediately gotta know how he’s doing right now. Opens the laptop, coffee getting cold.
The Annoying Hunt Begins
First stop, went straight to ESPN. Big mistake. Clicked ‘Golf’ section… tons of articles but NO current live leaderboard right there. Frustrating. Then I see a small link way down the page titled ‘Leaderboard’. Clicked it… loading… slow… finally. Scrolled down like crazy forever trying to find McIlroy’s name. Names blur together, tiny font. Why is this so hard?! Gave up.
Trying Another Website
Scratched my head. Remembered the actual PGA site might work. Typed that in. Instantly better. Big clear leaderboard right on the homepage. Found the right tournament. Scanned the list:
- Hovland -4
- Scheffler -3
- Rahm -2
Scrolling… scrolling… THERE! McIlroy, Rory. Okay cool. Needed more detail than just his overall score though. Clicked right on his name. Had some hope this time.
Finally Getting Somewhere
Clicked his name. Boom! A proper scorecard popped up. Exactly what I wanted. Like seeing a treasure map.
- Hole 1: Par 4, score 4 (Par)
- Hole 2: Par 5, score 5 (Par) – Birdie chance missed! Grr.
- Hole 3: Par 3, score 3 (Birdie!) – Nice!
- Hole 4: Par 4, score 5 (Bogey) – Ouch.
You get it. Hole by hole. His stats jumped out:
- Overall: Even Par (E)
- Position: Tied 24th – Middle of the pack right now.
- Driving Accuracy: Meh, 50%
- Putts per round: Around 28-ish. Okay not terrible.
Started piecing together his round mentally. Solid start, mixed bag on the front nine, few mistakes pulling him down. Exactly the kind of detail I was after.
Mission Mostly Accomplished
Leaned back. So yeah, Rory McIlroy’s current standing? After Day One? Even par. Sitting in T24th place. Definitely not lights out, not awful either. Needs to clean up those bogeys. Got the live updates bookmarked now for later. Practice complete! Knowledge acquired. Gotta go warm up that coffee now.
