First thought I had this morning: MLB The Show 25 might finally run decent on PC. Last year was rough, remember? So yeah, I dove straight into figuring out if it’s worth buying this time. Started simple.
Just Google It, Obviously
Cracked open the laptop, coffee beside me, spilled a little already. Typed in “MLB The Show 25 PC Review” real quick. Scrolled past the official stuff, wanted real people griping or praising. Clicked on a couple big gaming sites first.
Noticed right away:
- The port job. Kept seeing words like “patchy” and “unoptimized.” One guy mentioned his fancy new graphics card was sweating bullets trying to hit 60 frames. Bad sign.
- Server trouble talk. Lots of comments saying online matches were was lag city right after launch. Like, disconnect errors popping up constantly. Felt like deja vu from last year.
- Grind complaints. Seems the Diamond Dynasty mode still needs crazy hours or deep pockets to build a squad that’s fun. Saw someone call it a “second job.” Oof.
Wasn’t feeling great. So I hopped over to Reddit. Searched the game’s subreddit. Sorted by “new” to see what folks right now are yelling about. Real messy.
Top posts were angry:
- Stuttering madness. Videos showing the game freezing mid-pitch. People trying fixes for hours, not working. One clip had the baserunner literally glitching through the wall. Hilarious but awful.
- Old bugs are back. Threads listing issues from MLB 24 still kicking around. Like roster updates screwing up franchise saves. Ugh, lazy.
- Controller issues. My buddy uses an Xbox pad on PC. Posts confirmed it: buttons randomly stop working unless you plug it in. Wireless? Forget it. Annoying as heck.
Checked Steam reviews next. Filtered for recent ones. Mostly “Negative,” bar graph painted red. Scrolled through dozens. So many saying “wait for sale” or “wait for fixes.” Performance rants everywhere.
Why I Know About This Stuff
Got burned bad last year with the PC port. Slammed down cash opening day, game ran like slideshow on my rig. Spent a whole weekend tweaking settings files like a madman, barely helped. Refund window slammed shut while I was “fixing” it. Still salty about those sixty bucks vanishing into a glitchy mess.
Once worked part-time at a game shop too. Saw returns pile up for games that launched broken. People furious, demanding refunds we couldn’t always give. You learn: never pre-order, always check real reviews first, especially on PC. Ports are often rushed.
Finished my coffee, cold now. Looked back at all the tabs open – articles, Reddit rants, Steam warnings. Took maybe an hour, tops.
Final verdict: Reviews ain’t pretty. Performance headaches, old bugs partying, online instability. Seems Sony dumped it on PC without enough polish again. No way I’m risking a repeat of last year’s disaster.
Saved myself sixty bucks and a weekend of frustration. I’ll skip this year. Maybe catch a cheap used copy on console later if they fix things. Easy decision once you actually look.
